The
Society
With the introduction of Brahman blood into Australia, the
Braford was among a number of Breeds derived from the crossing
of the traditional British Breeds already in Australia with
the introduced Brahman. As a result the recording and registration
of Brafords, Brangus, Droughtmaster and Brahman cattle was
undertaken by an Association formed for this purpose called
the Australian Tropical Beef Breeders Association.
However, with each of the Breeds having varying ideals,
it was decided that for the benefit of each Breed, separate
Societies be formed.
The Australian Braford Society was formed following the
Inaugural Meeting held on the 13 September 1962 in Rockhampton.
At this meeting, which was attended by 15 Breeders, the Society
with 600 registered cattle was formed. The Society now boasts
over 300 members with more than 90,000 registered cattle.
The Society head office is situated in Rockhampton at 122
Denham Street and visitors are always welcome.
